15:15 Stratfor analysis: Developments in Moscow prove something more serious is happening
than the division of Kosovo: fight for power. The Army finalkly decided to show its teeth,
probably supported by radical elements in Duma.
The next several hours will be of crucial importance. (continuation) . If the Foreign
Ministry and moderate elements
are still in control, Russian troops will withdraw. If the Army is in charge now, the
troops will stay where they are and will be enlarged. The principal unanswered question is
what`s the role
of Yeltsin in all this.
15:14 I see that our public is being informed in details about the
dispute between the Russians and NATO and about how Russians were welcomed in Pristina. I
am amazed by hiding of the fact that all, virtually all Serbs from Djakovica and around
it, and I guess from prizren too, have left their homes together with our Army. KLA
started to come in there before our Army
started to withdraw. No tampon zone has been made, no protection provided, or anything
else planned by the military agreement. At the same time, our soldiers remained at the
borders!
14:34 M. Jackson is proposing to the Russian General to hold a joint press in Pristina.
14:33 Moscow -
1. It is clear that NATO is behind Hungary`s decision not to give the corridor to the
Russians.
2. Although it is a holiday here today (Independence day). B.Yeltsin is carefully
monitoring the developments regarding Kosovo.

Zavarzin.
4. Essentially, the Russians wonder why the world is surprised by the entry of the Russian
contingent into Kosovo.

from Kosovo, inspite of Ivanov`s statement it was a mistake. The Hungarians did not give

going to happen. In general, Russians believe their image has been improved by this.

Yugoslavia and Macedonia). Judging by the frequent aircrafts flying over Skopje and
outskirts, it seems they are getting ready to move.
12:44 A friend from Texas just explained to me what the Russians told Michael Jackson:
"What, we have entered Pristina??? Mister General, sorry, but, according to maps we
are using, which KGB gave us, we thought we were still north of Pristina!?" :)))
There, the Russian made a colaterall damage
too. :)))
11:30 INTERFAX, Moscow
The decision for the Russian paratroops to enter pristina last night was brough because
"if we did not enter it last night, we would have never done it",
diplomatic-military sources in Moscow told the agency INTERFAX.
According to those sources, USA inteded to stall the negotiations regarding the
participance of Russia in KFOR for ages, and enter Pristina with its troops, cutting thys
our troops off.
10:57 ITAR TASS
Russian representative to NATO, General Viktor Zavarzin, is in
Pristina, ITAR TASS found out in the Russian Defence Ministry. This was confirmed by ITAR
TASS sources in Belgrade, according to whose info, the general was seen in the convoy of
Russian peacekeepers moving through the territory of FRY.
On the first day of the aggression Russia froze its relations with the Alliance, while
Viktor Zavarzin was called off from Brussels. He, then, took part in the negotiations held
in Belgrade by Russian envoy for the Balkans, Viktor Chernomyrdin. Zavarzin also took part
in the agreement Chernomyrdine - Talbott - Ahtisaari, which was accepted by the Yugoslav
parliament and which made the basis for the UN SC Resolution.

and entered the villaes that the YU Army left.
10:31 In Russia it is still not known WHO gave the order for the entry of Russian troops
into Kosovo. There are 2 versions: Army Supreme Command, or Defence Ministry - It was also
reported that NO ORDER has been issued for the Russian troops to leave Kosovo
- It was said that at the moment there are ONLY 200 Russian soldiers. This is the
main contingent, which is to secure and prepare the ARRIVAL of the remaing part of dessant
units to pristina, then it will return to Bosnia.
10:00 ANSA, Moscow
A source close to the Russian Defence Ministry told agency INTERFAX that the contingent
that arrived to Pristina would not withdraw and that the troops in Yugoslavia would
probably be enlarged. It is expected that the talks of the Russian Foreign Minister Igor
Ivanov and the US Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbote will be continued today.
05:22 Sky News
Here, they are running into Yugoslavia this very minute. Camera is shooting everything, of
course. If there were justice...
05:20 I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!
I`m just watching direct live video on Sky News of NATO entering
Kosovo. Soldiers are taking pictures with helicopters in the background. One helicopter
fired some kind of flairs (lighting bullets). The commentator said: " ... here, they
are firing flairs for cameras only. How nice and spectacular" !!!
04:30 The British and the french are entering Kosovo from Macedonia at 05:00, while
Germans will simultaneously enter Kosovo from Albania (how they will be welcomed it is yet
to be seen).
03:46 (unofficially) Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov repeated that Russia insists its
troops should have its own sector in Kosovo with a command independent from NATO.
According to Ivanov: "Russian troops will not be subordinate to anyone. Russia will
not participate with a second-rate role." In his comments he never mentioned his
promise to order Russian troops to leave Kosovo. [unofficially] Yeltsin`s press secretary
Dmitry Yakushkin said: "I will not comment anything now.''
03:08 SKY News - says quite openly they do not trust the White House, they are trying to
wash the shame from their cheeks. They also say the Russian Army is obedient and would
never do something like that without orders, and that Russians are using this to return to
the political scene suddenly and impressively.
02:41 Vevcani - We have been listening to bad saxophone music long enough, it is time now
for Kazatchok...
02:46 Ivanov live says that "unfortunately it is true that Russian troops have
arrived to pristina and that Russian Government is making an investigation as to why this
happened, since the Government did not order it" -Ivanov ordered these troops to
leave Kosovo at once, and went to a meeting with Talbot to solve the questions of the
participance of Russia in the peacekeeping forces.
02:45 I am watching CNN for half an hour now. The Americans are completely confused. They
don`t know what is going on, so they are making up more and more new possible scenarios.
Keep on, Batcuskas (Russians), Keep on.
02:40 SKY News speculates that Russian troops do not have Yeltsin`s approval and thatthey
will withdraw.
02:38 Mr.Hunt, senior correspondent from America is just reporting on Sky News that the
Russians, i.e. their units entered Kosovo by their own will, and that they will be issued
orders to withdraw in an hour!!! This is the info received from high US sources.
02:32 CNN reporter from Pristina very reasonably explained that this is very positive,
since Serbian inhabitants were preparing to leave Kosovo. Today, says he, KLA was even
burning Serbian houses. The arrival of Russians is guaranteeing to Serbian people NATO
will not leave them at the mercy of KLA. It seems the man understands things.
02:29 CNN reports on the arrival of Russians to pristina, for half an hour now. White
House says this changes nothing, that this will only make it more difficult for them to
give the Russians their sector, because they have deceived them, so how could they be
trusted now? The are showing live video from Pristina on the people welcoming the
Russians. CNN is not mentioning
the planes landing at the airport. They also speculate that this was not the decision of
Russia, but a decision of some low-ranking commanders and that this is just a small group
which will not be followed by more Russians.
02:07 Sky News - Tim Marshall just reported that Russian transporter planes landed onto
Pristina airport. He said if the british had been intending to take the airport, what
happens now? The Russians are there and will not give it over.

don`t know what is going on.

is heavily injured, the others are OK. The plane crashed onto the runway during landing,
not onto the refugee camp

Pristina. The Americans and British are still confused. Also, about 1,500 Russian
parachuters landed at Dubrava - airport near Tuzla.

make a dessant onto Pristina airport, probably to be the first.
And they call themselves peacekeepers.

had no further details.
